Mr Barry Hayden Maraj is Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL & Royal Free University.
He is the laparoscopic urological surgeon at the Whittington Hospital
and visiting laparoscopic surgeon and mentor for the Caribbean Urology Association (CURA)
Mr Maraj works closely with Professor James Malone-Lee in the research, assessment and management of lower urinary tract dysfunction
He has research links with the Royal Free Hospital in Nanotechnology and prostate cancer

He was born in Trinidad, West-Indies and qualified in Glasgow Medical School 1987. Subsequent to this he trained in general surgery in the west of Scotland also gaining experience in vascular and plastic surgery. After completing his training, he left for Leeds to engage in a successful research training fellowship leading to the award of a PhD degree in the molecular biology of cancer. He has published extensively in this field as well as presenting data verbally and in poster form at BAUS/AUA/EAU and regional meetings (http://www.maraj-urology.com/ACADEMIC-BACKGROUND-AND-PUBLICATIONS)
He is a general urological surgeon with interests in:
Endourology and minimally invasive management of urologic disorders/cancer (which includes laparoscopy and high energy modality treatment).
His main research interest is the molecular biology of urologic cancers with the aim to develop markers for screening, prognosis and management. This complements his clinical and surgical interest in minimally invasive techniques and therapies.
